Serving Halal Food
All of these restaurants (except the vegetarian one) bears the halal sign at the front of their restaurants, and on their ads also.
Malaysian
D’Wau Restaurant, in Wat Bo area, near Soria Moria hotel. If you are Malaysian, this restaurant lets you enjoy Malaysian food away from home. They have chicken satay, nasi lemak, and ..., hm, do you need more reason to go here? No, I didn’t think so. Plus, this is the only Malaysian restaurant in town.
Indian
Taj India, in Old Market areaThe restaurant is just opposite the Provincial Hospital near the Old Market. They have the usual Indian dishes, such as chicken, mutton, beef, fish, and many vegetarian choices. Lassies and fruit juices are also available.
Little India, Old Market, opposite Blue Pumpkin
One of the first and oldest Indian restaurant in town. They have ala carte as well as set menus, with vegetarian and non-vegetarian choices. You can also sit on the curbside, and look on passerby. Good location to eat halal food and still be in the middle of the ‘action’.
Maharajah, Old Market, near Pub Street
Maharajah have Royal Indian Cuisine, but I’m not sure what that means. The food is sure good though. They have set menus and ala carte, with a big billboard of photos for easy choosing. Vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes available. This is one of the popular restaurants in Siem Reap.
Curry Walla, Sivatha Blvd, between Center Market and Angkor market.
An award winning restaurant in 2006, for the Best Value for Money category. They have the usual wide selection of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. Free internet for customers (fast connection), and they also offer free delivery if you don’t feel like going out.
Vegetarian
Chamkar, at the Pub Street's Passage, near Old MarketThis restaurant is located on the Pub St. Passage, which is a small alley lined with popular restaurants. They serve Cambodian food here, and they are seriously delicious! A great place to try Cambodian dishes without having to worry whether it’s halal or not, while still be in the heart of Pub St. setting.
Other
Chamtours.com, Old Market area, near Viva mexican restaurantThis Vietnamese restaurants is owned by a muslim family. They serve noodles and other Vietnamese dishes. It doesn't display the restaurant's name, but the halal sign is front and center on their entrance.
Star Café at Angkor Star Hotel, Sivatha Blvd, near Angkor Holiday Hotel
This café is located inside the Angkor Star Hotel, and is open on lunch and dinner hours. This Siem Reap restaurant have Cambodian food available, as well as other international fare.
So in short...
There are quite a few choices for halal food restaurants in Siem Reap,
and most of
them are right there around the Old Market area. But considering that
Siem Reap isn't that big, any restaurants you choose is very easy to
get to. Prices are also reasonable. For most of the restaurants above, you can get a full meal for less than $5.
Now that food 'problem' is solved, did you wonder if there's also a mosque around? Well, surprisingly there is. This Siem Reap mosque is rather hard to get to even though it's near Old Market. But if you'd like to make a visit, it'll be worth your time, if only to see how Muslims live in Cambodia, an country that is predominantly Buddhist.
