Get Excited For Your Next Trip!
Everytime I see a new production of this wonderful historical site, I feel so blessed to have been there and to be able to connect with what the movie makers were saying.
Needless to say, watching some AngkorWat videos before my initial trip was a huge boost to my anticipation level. Seeing the majestic temple and the jungles and learning about the history of the place and the people and the early explorers just made everything comes alive. So here four (4) full featured movies out there that I recommend.
1. AngkorWat - BBC Documentary
This was the first full video I saw after deciding to go to Cambodia. It's a great one, touching a little bit of the different temples and giving the history behind them. Totally interesting and beautifully done!
2. Glories of AngkorWat - National Geographic Documentary
This one is my favorite. Seeing Henri Mouhot in screen was just amazing (yeah, even it was only an actor). It seems as if I was there when he first re-discovered AngkorWat. Don't miss this one.
3. Digging For The Truth - History Channel documentary
This one focuses more on how the Angkor Wat temples were built; how the ancient Khmer smoothed the stones, stacked them up, etc. They also fly up high with a helicopter to see the layout of the land and search of remnants of still undiscovered temples. More detailed stuff.
4. The Lost World of the Khmer Rouge - Discovery Channel
This one was made by David Adams, a photojournalist who made many other videos of other countries. He's won many awards for his documentary films, and this particular piece on Cambodia which was part of the the Journeys To The Ends Of The Earth was shown on the Discovery network. This one is more "down to earth" other videos, shown by the many interactions with locals.
So In Short...
I hope you're now more excited about visiting Cambodia and the Angkor
temples than before. There are several other Cambodian related movies
out there, some that you can purchase, and some that were made by
fellow travelers. However, the above should give enough information as
